True Grit

Got plans on December 25th?  Ok dumb question, of course you probably do.  But if you are like some of us that like to push back from the turkey, pie, football, your crazy Aunt Linda and go to the movies on Christmas day.  We might have found the one for you this year.

The Coen Brothers are at it once again, this time with a remake of the classic western True Grit.  This adaption will star Academy Award winners Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon, as well as nominee Josh Brolin should deliver a strong performance.  They have tall shoes to fill in trying to remake a John Wayne classic.  We think that they will deliver and then some.  Thanks to our Facebook friend Micheal Bell for giving us the lead on this one.

Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with “true grit,” Reuben J. “Rooster” Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her “grit” tested.

Tailgating followup.

And we thought our series on the art of tailgating covered it all, but even we can be wrong from time to time.

The Grill ‘N Chill Tailgater pretty much has everything you want when tailgating.  24,000 BTU’s of searing heat, a 50 quart ice chest, and beer tap.  Oh yeah, and a sound system built-in.  What could go wrong with this item?  About nothing.

Go ahead and give us a reason to leave the parking lot, we can pee on the tires, and sleep in the bed of our trucks.  We have survival skills unlike any other now that we have this thing.  Check it out.

Netflix iPhone App… Update

In a great new update to the Netflix iPhone app… they have now enabled it to work with “video out” (iPhone 4 & 4th Gen iPod only).  What does this mean?  If you are one of the many people who are constantly hearing about how great Netflix Instant Streaming is on the TV, but don’t have a Roku or PS3 or Xbox360 or new AppleTV (or many of the other devices capable of streaming Netflix) you can now simply hook your iPhone4 up to the TV and stream it straight from there.  BAM!  Instant Streaming!!!  Your cell-phone just become your major media box for the home entertainment system.  Yeah… kinda snuck up on you didn’t it.

Bubbling Iphone App.

You may recall when we wrote about a young, troubled youth that had a bit too much time on his hands.  He created what he dubbed “Bubbling” as a creative way to get his rocks off, without actually looking at naked women.  Buckle your seatbelts perverts, cause now there is an Iphone app for that.

The basic premise is you take a picture, apply a filter over it and then simply create “bubbles” in the picture to only show the parts you want.  They actually work really well and trick your mind into seeing what it really wants to see.   I can only imagine this getting out of hand at bars, clubs, and college football games.  But we leave the social implications to you and Apple who approved the app.

You can pick it up here for just 99 cents.  We tried it out, let us know what you think of this hottie..

Call Of Duty: Black Ops, Going 3D!

One of the most anticipated games of the year just announced that it it is going to be compatible with 3D technology!  We are getting cold sweats just thinking about it.  On top of Zombies, this is just about the best game announcement we have heard in the last week.

In what could become the definitive 3D game experience, Treyarch‘s Call of Duty(R): Black Ops will also be playable in stereoscopic 3D when the game launches at retail outlets worldwide on November 9th. Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) today revealed that the game will be compatible with 3D-ready HDTVs and 3D PCs utilizing state-of-the-art active shutter 3D glasses, delivering true depth of field and an unprecedented level of immersion that is perfectly suited for the Call of Duty action experience. Call of Duty: Black Ops will be playable in both 3D and non-3D on the Xbox 360(R) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation(R) 3 computer entertainment system and Windows(R) PC.

“Development of stereoscopic 3D began as an R&D project, but once we saw what the technology brought to the Call of Duty experience, what a great fit and how immersive it was, we knew that we had to develop it for Black Ops. Aiming down the sights of your weapons, flying in helicopters, rappelling down mountains, and moving through highly detailed environments are just some of the awesome experiences you will have in 3D with Black Ops,” says Mark Lamia, Studio Head of Treyarch. Call of Duty: Black Ops is already the most anticipated entertainment launch of the year, and the addition of a fully playable 3D version will truly take gaming to the next level,” said Chris Homeister, senior vice president and general manager of the home entertainment group at Best Buy. “Through our footprint of nearly 1100 retail locations across the country and online, as well as our wide selection of 3D-enabled products, Best Buy is uniquely positioned to bring this exciting experience to life for consumers. We’re thrilled to partner with Activision to support this great new chapter in home entertainment.” Added Lamia, “we made sure the experience is seamless for gamers to use with a simple menu option to enable stereoscopic 3D or disable it at any time whether playing in the single player campaign, multiplayer or Zombies.”

Starbucks News

Nooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!  Starbucks raised their prices another $.10 today.  A Medium size cup of coffee is now $1.95.

Apparently they mentioned something back in September through a press release (HERE)… but FRICK!  Hey, I have an idea… quit giving away free coffee, or “member deals” and just make my coffee cheaper!  Ugh.

What’s Blu This Week..

Here is our weekly look at what is hitting the shelves on Blu-ray and DVD.

The Karate Kid:  At risk of sounding like a nerd….Oh what the heck, I’m going for it.  This isn’t the Karate Kid.  It is the Kung Fu Kid.  Sorry, some classics shouldn’t be remade.  There is only one Daniel Larusso  and Mr. Miagi.  Frankly, this movie can wax on, wax off my nuts.

Beauty and the Beast:  I had a few relationships like this.  She was pretty ugly.  Disney classic now on Blu-ray.

The Exorcist:  The classic demonic movie.  Get green barf spewed at you in high def.

The Last of The MohicansDaniel Day Lewis and Madeleine Stowe in this period piece set in the French and Indian Wars.

Grindhouse Special Edition: Need we say more?  Together for the first time the Rodriguez/Tarantino Double Feature – GRINDHOUSE is back and better than ever! Continue reading

Hollywood Crack: SuperHero Edition

It seems as if we’ve been hearing a lot about the world of Superheroes in Hollywood this week.  To make it easier for you to digest with your morning bagel & coffee…. here’s just enough to fuel the nerd still living deep inside.  So roll up that Benjamin reeeeaaaal tight, and get ready to snort up today’s edition of Hollywood Crack!

Superman: Warner Bros. & Legendary Pictures have picked Zack Snyder (“300”, “Watchmen”) to direct their new Superman movie project… joining the king of caped-crusader reboots, Christopher Nolan (who is sitting in the producers seat).  When asked about plot, the only thing really worth mentioning is that they are considering a semi-connection with movies past… and the name General Zod was mentioned.

WonderWoman: As we mentioned towards the end of last week (Remember with us HERE) Warner Bros. Television Division has lassoed David E Kelley (“Ally McBeal”, “Boston Legal”, The Practice”) to both write and produce for the TV series.  No word on actors/resses at this point… but something is in the works, and that’s good enough for me!

Spiderman: We’ve been hearing more and more buzz about the Spidey reboot (Peter Parker in his High School Days) recently… but mainly just about the web-slinger (Andrew Garfield) himself.  Now the word is out that Emma Stone (“Easy A”, “Zombieland”) is being offered the role of Mary Jane Watson.  I big step up from Kristen Dunst?  Emma has some definite sex appeal… so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Ryan Reynolds: This guy is probably one of my favorite actors of our generation… quirky, witty, fun to watch and animated (And oddly… very similar in all ways to Robert Culp).  So what have we seen Ryan do in the comic book world so far?  Green Lantern, Deadpool, Paperman, Hannibal King (Blade: Trinity), and Van Wilder.  Will Ryan Reynolds officially become the superest hero of all time?  Have any other actors played this many different super-roles?  oh, and we’re not complaining… he does it well.  Just curious.

Thor: Nothing new to report… this little nugget of Godly kickassery is practically wrapped up.  Just a reminder that this is not only the next installment of the Marvel Powerhouse leading up to the Avenger movie, but it also hits in May (can I buy my tickets now?)

Also some stuff about a “Flash” movie from the “Green Lantern” people and DC hitting us with their entire Movie “plan”… but I’m pretty much nerded out by now, as I’m sure you are too.  This crack is taking its toll!

Up, Up and AWAY!!!!
